PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS

Activated carbon is the universal standard for purification and removal of trace organic contaminants from liquid and vapor streams. The use of activated carbon has improved the quality of our environment and the manufactured products we consume. Activated carbons are manufactured from many high carbon content materials including coal, coconut shells, wood, and peat. Through a complex process of devolatization and activation, these materials develop a unique internal pore structure, which makes them suitable for a variety of filtration applications.
Our standard virgin carbon is manufactured from select grades of bituminous coal under strictly controlled conditions by steam activation. This carbon is irregularly shaped and granular in appearance. With a highly developed porous structure, large surface area, high adsorption rate, small bed resistance and high mechanical strength, it is suitable for a wide range of water treatment and vapor adsorption applications.
Nordic Water 's coal based activated carbon products can be water washed to assure low dust. This minimizes the amount of backwashing required during start-up and following carbon replacement. In addition, our GAC may be acid washed, if required, to assure low extractables.

Standard Carbon Specifications
Nordic Water stocks the standard granular and pelletized activated carbon. These products can typically be shipped to our customers within a few day of order.

Specialty Carbons
If your project requires special carbons not stocked by Nordic Water, we can offer every type of activated carbon base materials available for various applications such as coal, coconut shell, wood, lignite, and carbon cloth or fiber. Activated carbon is provided in granular, powder, and pellet form with virgin, reactivated, and impregnated grades available. Special types such as acid-washed or water-washed carbons are also offered.
In many cases spent carbon disposal options such as landfill, incineration, or regeneration (both non-hazardous and RCRA hazardous) are available. Nordic Water can act as either a consultant for disposal options or act as a contractor and make all arrangement for disposal.
In addition, we offer a complete line of carbon adsorption systems unmatched by our competitors. These innovative technologies offer unique benefits over traditional destruction/adsorption processes in both capital and operation costs.
